Blake Basic's "Bad Influence" Hits 1 Million Views in 1 Month
So I've been watching this through all the drama with Scroll getting taken down, then put back up, n all that jazz. I actually talked to Blake on Feb 27th and asked him a few questions about 'Bad Influence' which has blown up on YouTube, as well as on other platforms.
This little blurb below is from the chat I had with him in February, it goes into the inspirations, the process of creating the song, and how he thought it turned out and how it compares to his other music.
"We recorded Bad Influence back in August and for us, it was just another song, we had no idea it would take off like it did but it’s quickly grown to be my most popular track.
It was really the start of me finding my sound as a rapper, I love beats that have crazy unique melodies and hard-hitting drum patterns, similar to artists like Ski Mask The Slump God, TrippyThaKid, and JID. A few of my most notable influences as an artist would be Denzel Curry, City Morgue, XXXTentacion, & Ski Mask The Slump God.
At the time, I thought the track turned out great, it was unlike anything else I made before and the sound we created was in its own lane, but as time went I’ve outgrown the track. However, I would say it was a rough template for all of my future work, as I’ve even named my first solo mixtape “Bad Influence” and included the original track on the tape.
Bad Influence is similar to my other music as far as the structuring goes but the instrumental and the flows we used were unlike anything we’ve done before. I never expected an experimental track like that to be my first song that really took off. We hit over 250k views in just 1 week and we are still growing."
As of the time of this post being written/published, the video has 1,024,080 views, so I'll see in a few weeks where the view count is at then. You can check out more of Blake Basic's music at the links below!
