Interview with CRS, a Technical Death Metal Band from Mexico.

What makes your music unique, what sets you apart from the other bands?
Nowadays, many bands try to have an original sound, few succeed and some
remain in it, they become monotonous, boring. CRS does not have that pretension,
we proudly live with our influences that are very broad,
many old school styles. Interestingly, this has allowed us to have an
original, natural, brutal, technical, and interesting sound, full of
surprises.

What are your influences?
Morbid Angel, Death, Pestilence, Obituary, Carcass, Napalm Death, Kreator,
Obituary, Fear Factory, Meshuggah.
What was a defining factor in choosing how your music would sound?
Our musical tastes, they send, we make songs that we would like to hear,
we don't joke when we say we are fans of CRS.

Do you have a mentor? Who is it?
Properly we did not have a mentor, we have people we admire
or people who have inspired us rather. For example, Pascual Meza of the
band Khafra; is someone we respect for being one of the first to do
heavy metal in Spanish in our country. In production and mixing,
Francisco Oroz (Producer and Guitarist) has studied with Andy Wallace, he
learned a lot from him. Oroz has been 7 times a Grammy nominee.

Tell me one genre of music that you do not understand.
We see music as a form of artistic expression or as a form of
entertainment. Understood those two purposes there is music that we may
not like but if it reaches its purpose of entertaining to a certain
sector of the public, we do not have a problem, just we don`t talk about
them. We like to talk better about the genres that we like and entertain.

Tell me one genre of music that you can't stand to listen too.
Hahaha a tricky one. SIR OZ doesn’t like Reggeaton.

Where was your favorite place that you performed a show at? Where would be
a dream place to perform?

Having a gig in a bar was always great, we like small places and being
close to the attendees. We would like to play in the Mexican metal
festival "Hell and Heaven".

Write some advice you would give to your future self.
Hire a Lawyer and enjoy the music.

What is your favorite song from your band?
Hard to say, it could be “FARISEOS”

What is your favorite song in general? And on top of that, what if your favorite band to listen too?
Humiliative by Meshuggah. The band could be CARCASS.

Are you a person that is usually on time, late, or early?
We are extremely punctual guys with little patients or the tardy ones.

Name one time you have broken the rules, what did you do and why did you do it?

There are many, once we had a gig in a yard. We were drinking a lot of
beer; the police came to stop the show, then SIR OZ threw beer bottles
that crashed with the patrols. Total Chaos.

What was your dream job when you were you were younger?
Live from the band.

Name something that makes you uncomfortable, pet peeve, phobia, etc. and explain why.
Boastful people.

If you could go on tour with any band or artist, who would you go with? (You can list more than
one)

Pantera or Meshuggah.

What is the nastiest or worst thing that has happened to you during a show, before a show, or
after a show?

In one of the last gigs, before going on stage, a friend jumped on SIR OZ
and broke his leg. SIR OZ sang with his leg broken, his growls were
spectacular that day hahaha. The next day he went to surgery.

Tell me about your most recent Album.
It is a well-thinking album, it took us many years to record it, but
ideas were clear from the beginning. There are songs that date from 20
years ago, it was not necessary to update them as some people believe,
the base is almost the same, even 20 years later they sound great because
we had all those years to mature the ideas. We don' change them; we just
mature them. It is an album full of energy, full of feelings, of
confessions, it is a speech, it is an emblem, there is brutality and
harmony, melody, feeling, speed, tiredness, and courage. We are throwing
up nonconformity, we are challenging ourselves. It is an album made to
confess and to drag and drag. We want to provoke the listeners, we don't
want the songs to be indifferent. We have many styles of death metal on
the album, it's not boring, there's thrash, death, hardcore, jazz, etc.
It is the album of our life.

What is our favorite track off of the album?
The Daydreamer`s Nightmare.

What were your inspiration and your influences on this album?

Musically, we try to have the sounds of bands of the old school of
technical death metal. The idea behind the lyrics is the story of a guy
who is sick of the place where he is (city, work, friends, couple) and
decides to leave, abandons everything and try to change. To change one
must kill oneself, the inner struggle is very hard, many demons, that's
what the record is about.

Tell me about your future plans for music.
We want to promote this album, we want it to be a reference for the metal
made in our country, we will do our best. We look forward to offering
more CIRROSIS music.

Are there any special plans music-wise you want people to know about?

Everyone wants to watch us play live again. It would be great but if that
happens it must be spectacular.
